Appia Project

Professor Richard Beacham and the Visualisation Lab have recently completed the Appia project. This AHRB-funded project is named after Adolphe Appia (1862 to 1928) who was an important innovator performance space, scenography and stage lighting, varying the light to accord with changes in music and mood.

KVL has created a number of 3D visualisations based on Appia's modular scenic designs. These designs have been imported into an architectural computer model of the Hellerau Festspielhaus and rendered with various lighting configurations drawing on historical documents and photographs taken from theatrical performances of 1912.
